Adèle Duguay
Biography
I am a landscape designer, nature lover, and artist.
I am a collaborator - bringing people together for
exploration of soul, celebration of unique identities,
and companionship for the human journey
Adèle was born into a creative vortex of Northern Ontario pioneer women who knew how to cut things apart and sew them back together in a beautiful way. Her Grandfather loved rocks and was an avid amateur prospector. Like her New Brunswick native ancestors, every summer she was immersed in beachcombing, fire gazing, fishing, blackfly slapping, and bear watching. Adèle grew up on the rugged Canadian Shield where ferns grew thickly on top of huge boulders and pine trees leaned impossibly from shear granite cliff faces - inspiring her current art life.

From both her carpenter father and university landscape architecture professors she learned about the intersection of land and structure. In addition to teaching landscape planning, Adèle designed over 3,000 gardens and mastered a unique collaborative hand drawing process. She added a Permaculture Design Certificate to her resources in 2022 and used her final project to demonstrate how these principles could apply to mentoring relationships between young adults and those retiring from their main careers – increasing the quality of life for both groups.

Concurrently, Adèle studied energy healing through sound, shamanic journeying, Feng Shui, Dynamic energy healing, Quantum Shamanic Reiki, and intuitive art – all to understand and enhance a healthy nature-centered human experience. In 2019, she followed a trail into mixed media felt making and had a large piece entitled “She Who Calls” in the Portraits Exhibition through the Alberta Craft Council. This was also the year that Adèle emerged from her training as an Intentional Creativity Teacher and Coach through The Color of Woman program. She has created over 20 large acrylic and mixed media paintings in this genre and is certified in the Soulscape painting process, Medicine Painting, and Sacred Scribing.

In 2021, Adèle organized a sacred journey to Aisinai’pi – Writing On Stone Provincial Park and UNESCO Site in Blackfoot territory and photographed hundreds of amazing rock formations and pictographs. These were then collaged into four 7-foot-high totemic figures called Spirit Creatures - representing earth, water, air, and fire. She continues to engage with other sacred sites in this same way resulting in a solo exhibition of the first 14 Spirit Creatures of Ancient Shorelines in 2024.
This mystical and fascinating collection expresses Adèle’s love of the textures, colours, and formations of the stone kingdom. Putting the photos together is a delightful puzzle of possibilities. Each one is a unique manifestation of the natural world that is often under-foot and under-appreciated. The rocks hold the record of the true history of the planet and tell a big story of transformation and transcendence.
Adèle believes that we are supported by the unseen realms and can invite this into our experience to enhance our journey on the Earth as did the ancient peoples. She imagines that if we create a community where the instinctual, mystical, and mythic creative life is celebrated, people will feel supported and resilient in a changing world.
